Miami-Dade Police Officer Charged In Death

Two weeks ago, prosecutors brought charges against a Miami-Dade police officer in the death of Emilio Jesus Vizcaino eight months ago.

The accident has been under investigation ever since it occurred. Police have determined that Officer Jon Song was driving at almost double the speed limit when he ran a stop sign and struck the vehicle Vizcaino was driving.

The “black box” data from the police car showed that the officer was going nearly 78 mph just a half-a-second before the crash happened. He was not responding to a call at the time the crash happened.

Vizcaino died at the scene and Officer Song, along with another officer in the vehicle, were airlifted to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
